FixMyFamily.com was conceived, designed and is operated to serve two main public purposes. The first purpose is to help people find family & marriage counselors and therapists close to their homes and with the qualifications that they require. This user group will hereafter be known as “consumers” and may include other visitors to the site who utilize content other than counselor information. The second purpose is to help family & marriage counselors market their services. This user group will hereafter be known as “counselors.”
We do not share with any third party the individual identities of the consumers that use our site. The only information that we actively disseminate that contains the identity of individuals is identity information about family & marriage counselors and how to contact them. These counselors always retain the right to the timely removal of their information from FixMyFamily.com for any reason at all.
The only personally identifiable information FixMyFamily.com obtains about consumers is that supplied voluntarily by the same consumers.
If there are instances when FixMyFamily.com needs personal information from consumers or counselors to provide them with customized content or to inform them about new features or services, consumers are explicitly asked for that information.
If there arises an instance where FixMyFamily.com solicits p ersonally identifiable information from consumers (name, e-mail, preference of some kind, etc.) it will not be disclosed to anyone unless these same consumers indicate that FixMyFamily.com may do so.
Only statistical information about our consumers and counselors as a group (usage habits, demographics) may be shared with any partner of FixMyFamily.com. Personally identifiable information about consumers will not be shared at any time without the consumers’ permission.
There are three important exceptions to our assurances of confidentiality:
United States law requires that any suspicion of risk of child abuse be reported to child welfare authorities or law enforcement authorities. If we, or the counselors, believe that a child is at risk of being abused, has already been abused, or that someone who previously abused children is still a threat, we have no choice but to immediately make every effort possible to report it to social services agencies and/or the police.
Most United States courts have the power to subpoena our records and a counselor's records if you are involved in a court case in which your relationship with FixMyFamily.com or the mental health professional is somehow relevant. Although this may be rare, if you have any questions, it is better to contact your lawyer prior to disclosing any information you may deem private.
If someone's life is in danger, we will attempt to report it. This applies to potential cases of suicide or homicide.
AT THIS MOMENT, AS YOU READ THIS TEXT, IF YOU ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING SUICIDE, PLEASE LOG OFF YOUR COMPUTER AND TELEPHONE THE POLICE OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES.
